Valencia gaat nog altijd uit van Grand Prix in 2014

Valencia heeft met verbazing kennis genomen van het feit dat Barcelona al is begonnen met de kaartverkoop voor de Grand Prix van Spanje van volgend jaar. Het is volgens de sinaasappelstad namelijk allerminst zeker dat het Circuit de Catalunya in 2014 gastheer is voor de Formule 1.

Sterker nog, in Valencia gaat men ervan uit de Spaanse Grand Prix volgend seizoen te huisvesten. Jose Ciscar, vice-president van de regio Valencia betoogde tegenover EFE: "In principe is het roulatieschema nog steeds in leven en van kracht. Ik twijfel er niet aan dat de Catalaanse overheid zich houdt aan de afspraken tussen presidenten Fabra en Mas. Als Barcelona al tickets aanbiedt voor 2014, dan moet je hen vragen waarom ze dat doen."

Hij gaf wel toe dat het contract tussen Barcelona en Valencia om de Grand Prix te delen en om en om de race te organiseren nog niet definitief beklonken is. Ciscar benadrukt dat de onderhandelingen met Bernie Ecclestone over de jaarlijkse fee daaraan ten grondslag liggen.
