McLaren evalueert nieuwe onderdelen bij test op Idiada

Het team van McLaren heeft een paar dagen voor de eerste vrije training voor de Britse Grand Prix nog een rechte lijn-test uitgevoerd. Op Idiada kroop testrijder Oliver Turvey achter het stuur van de MP4-28 om nieuwe onderdelen te evalueren. Aan de hand van de resultaten bepaalt McLaren welke updates mee gaan naar Silverstone.

Teamdirecteur Jonathan Neale vat samen: "Het enige probleem van onze auto is een gebrek aan downforce en dat is wat we proberen te creëren. We waren gisteren nog actief op Idiada. Het weer was ons gunstig gezind en het was een productieve middag. Maar we testten niet alleen onderdelen, we probeerden ook de wagen verder te doorgronden. We wachten tot vrijdagmiddag om de knoop door te hakken met welke updates we het weekend ingaan. Ons pakket voor de Britse Grand Prix staat op dit moment nog niet vast."

McLaren geeft de ontwikkeling van de MP4-28 nog niet op. Neale: "We kunnen met de huidige bolide nog genoeg leren met het oog op volgend jaar. We hebben wat programma's op de auto die tot ver in het seizoen doorlopen en belangrijk zijn voor de nieuwe wagen. Er is geen geheim wapen. We pushen hard, maar de realiteit is dat het gat naar de top nog steeds erg groot is."

Wat zijn de doelen voor de thuisrace van komend weekend? "We willen met beide auto's Q3 halen en dan hard racen voor zoveel mogelijk punten. Het zou geweldig zijn als we een podium uit het vuur weten te slepen, maar op basis van de recente prestaties wordt dat een hele opgave. Maar de Formule 1 is een aparte sport en je weet nooit hoe het uitpakt totdat de laatste ronde verreden is."

Force India hield ook een rechte lijn-test, ze testte vooral het bestaande aeropakket maar daarnaast ook nog een nieuwe neus met een kin aan de onderkant zoals de Lotus. Ook werd geëvalueerd welke uitlatenconfiguratie het beste is voor overall downforce.

Deze behouden aanpak van Force India pakt dit jaar erg goed uit, ze proberen hun bestaand pakket zo goed mogelijk te begrijpen ipv elke race nieuwe onderdelen toe te voegen aan de wagen.

Idiada? waar is dit ik ken dit niet .Bij ander stukjes commentaar word er ook over Idiada gesproken .
