Giedo van der Garde op bekend terrein in Silverstone

Giedo van der Garde zint op eerherstel na het moeizame weekend in Canada. Dat moet dan gebeuren op het circuit van Silverstone. De Nederlander kent die baan goed, dat is een voordeel. Bovendien ligt de fabriek van Caterham niet ver weg, dus het is een soort van thuisrace.

Van der Garde: "Silverstone is de volgende halte en dat betekent een druk weekend voor ons. Zoals bij wel meer teams staat onze thuisbasis in Engeland, dus dit is weer een thuiswedstrijd. Wat dat betreft heb ik geluk. Met Maleisië en Groot-Brittannië voor het team, en België voor mezelf heb ik drie thuisraces dit jaar. Ik heb drie kansen om voor onze supporters te rijden."

"Het circuit zelf kennen we uiteraard heel goed. Ik kom hier al jaren om te racen. In 2008 won ik in de World Series by Renault, maar in de GP2 was deze baan me zelden gunstig gezind. Dat tij proberen we te keren door de stijgende lijn uit Spanje en Monaco weer op te pakken. Ik heb veel tijd doorgebracht in de simulator zodat ik niet voor verrassingen kom te staan. Zoals overal wordt het interessant om te zien hoe de banden zich houden."

"Ook buiten de cockpit is het een druk weekend. We hebben meerdere PR-evenementen in de aanloop en zaterdagavond gaan Charles Pic, Cyril Abiteboul en ik naar de fabriek in Leafield om het personeel en hun families toe te spreken. Dit is een van de weinige keren in het jaar dat Charles en ik allebei tegelijk in Groot-Brittannië zijn. Dat vormt de ideale gelegenheid om een praatje te maken met de werknemers en ze te bedanken voor hun harde werk."
