Brawn raadt FIA aan om grip op testen te verstevigen

Mercedes-teambaas Ross Brawn heeft vertrouwen dat de internationale autosportbond FIA meer toezicht op de naleving van de testregels gaat krijgen in de toekomst. De situatie is een beetje uit de hand gelopen en dat culmineerde in de ongeoorloofde bandentest van Mercedes. De FIA kondigde al aan om voortaan strenger te controleren op testen in de Formule 1.

Brawn juicht dat tegenover Autosport toe. "De FIA bekijkt de hele situatie, niet alleen dit incident. Teams doen ook filmdagen op Idiada, kan iemand me dat uitleggen? Het hele testen is een beetje door onze vingers geglipt de afgelopen jaren en dat dienen we te corrigeren. Het is zaak om een helder beeld ten gunste van iedereen te schetsen. De FIA zal dit als aanleiding gebruiken om het testen en alle andere activiteiten van de teams onder de loep te nemen, al is het volgend jaar al meer overzichtelijk met een aantal georganiseerde testdagen tijdens het seizoen."

"Iets anders waar de FIA naar dient te kijken is windtunneltesten, dat bevindt zich in een grijs gebied dat de bond wel eens door mag lichten. Ook dingen als rechte lijn-tests of aero-tests verdienen de aandacht van de federatie. De FIA zal de boel herstructureren in een poging om iedereen tevreden te stellen."

Wat Mercedes heeft gedaan was gewoon een ingecalculeerd risico. Ze wisten heel goed dat wat ze deden fout was, maar hebben een analyse gemaakt om te kijken of de voordelen de nadelen afwogen. Simpel zat. Geen enkel sportief team of coureur zou de beslissing maken die Mercedes maakte zonder de consequenties te overwegen.
Het gebied waarin ze opereerden is dan ook helemaal niet grijs te noemen. Hypocriet gelul van Brawn.
