Fernley: "Force India behoort tot verliezers in banden-verhaal"

Het team van Force India baalt stevig van de invoering van nieuwe banden, eerst al in Duitsland en straks ook weer in Hongarije. De Indiase renstal manoeuvreert zich in de rol van slachtoffer. De VJM06 was volledig ingericht op de eerste versie Pirelli's en dat voordeel raken ze nu kwijt. Tot verdriet van vice-teambaas Bob Fernley.

"Het vertrouwen is ver te zoeken nu de banden significant veranderen. Het is in elk geval positief dat we bij de young drivers-test op Silverstone alvast een indruk op kunnen doen, we kunnen een goede vergelijking maken met het Grand Prix-weekend van anderhalve week geleden. Het weer was prima tijdens de race en daardoor hebben we behoorlijk wat data kunnen vergaren."

"Maar de nieuwe compounds verschillen zo veel van de vorige banden en we hadden de auto zo ontworpen voor die banden, dat we nu terug naar de tekentafel moeten terwijl we dachten dat we dat al afgesloten hadden en de aandacht naar 2014 konden verschuiven. Dus dit is zeker niet goed, het is ongezond voor Force India."

"Andere teams hebben hier ook last van. Ferrari zit in hetzelfde schuitje. Lotus ging in Duitsland nog goed, maar ook zij zullen de effecten merken. En dat geldt voor meer teams. Je hebt teams die hier bij gebaat zijn en je hebt de verliezers in deze situatie. Force India behoort tot die laatste groep. De vraag is alleen hoeveel we verliezen", besluit Fernley.

Alles wat je verliest door dit (onnodige) gewissel van de compounds is te veel.
Ik hoop dat Force India nog iets kan met de nieuwe banden, want ik gunde ze de 5e plek in het constructeurs kampioenschap wel. Ze hadden het goed voor elkaar dit seizoen en het zou erg zijn als ze nu veel verliezen door het omgooien van de banden.
