Het team van Mercedes heeft een truc bedacht om de temperatuur en slijtage van de banden continu in de gaten te houden. De Duitse renstal heeft een infrarood-camera achter op de voorvleugel, richting de voorbanden, gemonteerd, schrijft Auto Motor und Sport.

Volgens het magazine is dat de nieuwste innovatie om de gevoelige Pirelli's enigszins te beteugelen. De infrarood-camera voorziet de engineers van Mercedes constant van een stroom aan data over de temperatuur en de toestand van het rubber.
