Tost: "Formule 1 komt nog te vroeg voor Sainz junior"

Carlos Sainz junior is nog niet klaar voor de Formule 1. Die boodschap uit Scuderia Toro Rosso-teambaas Franz Tost in Speed Week. Sainz junior gooide hoge ogen tijdens de young drivers-test op Silverstone, maar kan in de GP3 nog niet echt zijn stempel drukken.

Tost: "Ik heb hem gezegd dat hij races moet gaan winnen in de GP3. Sainz junior is pas 18 jaar jong, ik ga ervan uit dat hij over twee, drie jaar de volwassenheid voor de Formule 1 bereikt. Hij heeft in de GP3 nog niet de resultaten behaald die we van hem verwachten."

Sainz junior is de zoon van rallykampioen Carlos Sainz en behoort al jaren tot het opleidingsprogramma van Red Bull. Zijn manager Luis Garcia Abad sprak in Hongarije met Red Bull Racing-teambaas Christian Horner, maar een racezitje is niet aan de orde voor de jonge Spanjaard.
