Gemiste deadline Rusland door kibbelende promotor en bond

Sotsji verheugde zich al op het bezoek van de Formule 1 in oktober 2014, alles verliep soepel en lag op schema. Er is echter een kink in de kabel gekomen. Organisator Omega en de Russische autosportbond RAF hebben een conflict, waardoor de deadline voor inschrijving bij de FIA voor de kalender van volgend seizoen is verstreken. Rusland moet nu beroep doen op de force majeure-regel om dispensatie te krijgen.

Igor Yermilin, vice-president bij de RAF, laat echter aan F1news.ru weten: "Natuurlijk was het geen overmacht dat we de deadline misten. Dit is een intern probleem. Hoe dan ook, de Russische Grand Prix zal op het schema staan, iedereen heeft belang bij dit evenement. Het is wel belangrijk dat de promotor beseft dat dit niet binnen twee weken op poten te zetten is, het is een enorme opgave. Het grote probleem is volgens mij een gebrek aan begrip voor de omvang van dit evenement. Maar ik ben meer dan optimistisch. Alleen hebben we niet veel tijd meer."

Personeel voor de Grand Prix van Rusland reist de komende maanden af naar de Formule 1-races in België, Italië en Singapore voor specifieke training en bijscholing. FIA-medewerkers brengen op hun beurt een bezoek aan Sotsji voor lezingen over de medische procedures en de veiligheid. Maar, zo benadrukt Yermilin: "Zonder contract met de promotor heeft de Russische autosportbond formeel niets te maken met de Grand Prix van Rusland."
