Whitmarsh complimenteert Ecclestone met aanvoer racelocaties

Aan Bernie Ecclestone de taak om elk jaar een mooie Formule 1-kalender te formeren. Dat is voor 2014 nog een hele klus, aangezien hij een overschot aan mogelijke Grand Prix-locaties heeft. Het schema telt maximaal twintig races, heeft hij zelf al gezegd, terwijl hij drie nieuwe gastheren heeft gestrikt, bovenop de huidige negentien Grands Prix.

India valt waarschijnlijk af, dat ruimt op. McLaren-teambaas Martin Whitmarsh looft Ecclestone om de continue aanvoer van nieuwe racelocaties. "In alle eerlijkheid is Bernie er een meester in om gastlanden en circuits te vinden en regelen. In dit financiële klimaat hebben sommige evenementen het zwaar, dan is het wel goed om alternatieven achter de hand te hebben. Ik denk niet dat de kalender groeit naar 22 raceweekenden. Dat zou wel erg veel van de teams vergen."

"Maar zo is deze wereld. Een paar jaar geleden hoorde je dezelfde geluiden over meer dan 16 Grands Prix. Voor de coureurs en mij is het wel te doen, maar voor de monteurs en engineers is het erg uitputtend. We moeten Bernie echter steunen. De Formule 1 heeft soms fris bloed nodig, Rusland is bijvoorbeeld een interessante markt. Met twijfels rondom bepaalde evenementen is het goed dat nieuwe locaties van de lopende band rollen en daar is Ecclestone zeer bedreven in."

daar heeft de goede man wel een punt. Maar Bernie heeft niet het eeuwige leven. Toch heeft hij niet in de verste verte over zijn opvolging nagedacht. Maar goed met zijn 10% aandelen is dat ook niet zijn taak. CVC Capital zal als eigenaar dit al wel achter de schermen geregeld hebben.

Wat een onzin, die engineers worden volgens mij zeer goed betaald, hebben waarschijnlijk meer vrij dagen dan de lokale automonteur en niemand verplicht ze toch om daar te werken?

  Monteurs en engineers in de F1 zijn echt enorm veel van huis. Mogen die ook nog wat tijd over hebben voor hun gezin?

  Om maar te zwijgen van het feit dat ze niet zo veel meer zullen worden betaald als een gewone werkman en echt niet veel vakantie hebben.
