Michelin laat eis voor bandenoorlog in Formule 1 los

Michelin zou volgend jaar zomaar kunnen terugkeren in de Formule 1. De Franse bandenfabrikant hoeft Pirelli niet zo nodig te verdringen als bandenleverancier, ze kunnen prima naast elkaar bestaan en een nieuwe bandenoorlog ontketenen. Dat laatste was altijd een voorwaarde voor Michelin om weer in de Formule 1 te stappen.

Pascal Couasnon, motorsportbaas van het Franse merk, laat in Le Figaro weten dat die eis niet meer bestaat. "We hebben ons standpunt op dit vlak gewijzigd. Nu zouden we geen moeite hebben met de rol van exclusieve bandenleverancier. We zijn er klaar voor, het is een interessante technische uitdaging. Maar we gaan eventuele competitie ook niet uit de weg, dat zou ook prima zijn."

"De FIA beschikt over dezelfde informatie als het grote publiek, dus onze positie is bekend. Twee weken geleden las ik nog dat Michelin een persconferentie gepland had, maar dat bleek onwaar. De Formule 1 bevat zoveel geruchten, ik begin er al aan te wennen. Ik kan bevestigen dat ik geen besprekingen met Bernie Ecclestone in de planning heb."
