Pirelli heeft contracten voor 2014 met alle teams getekend

Pirelli heeft met alle elf Formule 1-teams een contract getekend om volgend jaar de banden te leveren. Dat vertelde Paul Hembery vanochtend voor de kwalificatie in Monza. Volgens Hembery is de overeenkomst met Bernie Ecclestone ook zo goed als rond, waardoor de Italiaanse bandenfabrikant ook na 2013 in de koningsklasse zal blijven.

Hembery: "Het klopt dat we met elk Formule 1-team een contract hebben getekend om ook volgend jaar de teams van banden te voorzien. Ditzelfde geldt voor de promotor van het kampioenschap, het contract met Ecclestone is rond."

De Brit vergeet echter misschien wel de belangrijkste beslisser; de FIA. Het overkoepelend orgaan van de autosport heeft nog helemaal niets ondertekend en een handtekening namens de FIA ontbreekt opvallend genoeg.

Dit zou mede te maken hebben doordat Jean Todt - president van de FIA en Fransman - de voorkeur zou geven aan een terugkeer van het eveneens Franse bandenmerk Michelin.

Pirelli's Paul Hembery reageert hierop: "Dat zou krankzinnig zijn. We hebben alle contracten getekend. Binnen twee weken moeten we ons programma voor volgend jaar op tafel leggen en de Formule 1-teams de informatie verschaffen die nodig is voor de wagens van volgend seizoen. We zijn al ruim vier maanden bezig met de voorbereiding van 2014."

Zoals ik eerder deze week zei heeft Todt ingebonden en zijn Michelin-campagne stopgezet. Dit omdat hij herkozen probeert te worden als FIA president en wel wat anders aan zijn hoofd heeft.

  Waarom zou pirelli de samenwerking niet zelf stopzetten na volgend jaar? Ze worden wel erg voor het blok gezet door todt met zijn last minute ideeën..
