Mercedes zet record van snelste pitstop op haar naam

Haast onopgemerkt heeft het team van Mercedes een nieuw record van snelste pitstop gevestigd in Japan. De Duitse renstal had op Suzuka slechts 2,02 seconden nodig voor een van de stops en dat is vier honderdsten sneller dan het vorige record van Red Bull Racing.

En volgens Mercedes-teammanager Ron Meadows had het allemaal nog sneller gekund. "Het mechanisme in de krik was te langzaam. Als het goed gefunctioneerd had, dan had de pitstop maar 1,93 seconde geduurd." Hoe dan ook, de barrière van twee seconden is allang niet meer veilig. "Bij het oefenen hebben we al eens een pitstop van 1,68 seconde geklokt", aldus Meadows.
