Maldonado gunt zichzelf de tijd bij teamkeuze voor 2014

Pastor Maldonado heeft nog geen werkgever voor volgend jaar. Er doken verhalen op dat hij al een akkoord met Lotus had bereikt en dat het vast stond dat hij Williams zou verlaten. Allebei zijn ze niet waar, zo benadrukt de Venezolaan tegenover Autosport.

Maldonado: "Op dit moment heb ik de knoop nog niet doorgehakt. Ik heb het zelf in de hand, dus neem ik liever nog wat meer tijd. Ik hoop voor het einde van het seizoen duidelijkheid te kunnen verschaffen, dan heb ik nog een paar weken. Ik kan niet garanderen dat ik weg ga bij Williams of dat ik blijf. Dit is mijn derde seizoen in de Formule 1, ik sta op een kruispunt en ik wil de best mogelijke beslissing voor mijn toekomst maken."

"Een team uitkiezen voor 2014 is niet makkelijk doordat de reglementen helemaal op de schop gaan. Ik verdedig al drie jaar de eer van Williams, als ik hier verleng heb ik het voordeel dat ik iedereen al ken. Bij een ander team begin ik vanaf nul, maar wat dat betreft ben ik niet de eerste in de geschiedenis. Daarnaast spelen veel factoren mee. Het is een belangrijk besluit en ik wil me daar wel op mijn gemak bij voelen."
