'Hoog tijd voor andere aanpak om kosten te reduceren'

De maatregelen in de Formule 1 om de kosten terug te dringen gaan niet ver genoeg en de aanpak om de uitgaven te reduceren faalt. Dat is de conclusie van oud-coureur Alain Prost. De zorgwekkende situatie kwam weer eens aan het licht door het gedoe bij Lotus, dat coureur Kimi Raikkonen nog niet had betaald dit jaar en wel meer openstaande rekeningen had. Prost vindt het hoog tijd om het over een andere boeg te gooien.

De viervoudig wereldkampioen stelt: "Het is al laat, maar het is nooit te laat om in te grijpen. De begrotingen van de teams zijn te hoog in vergelijking met de inkomsten en de sponsors. Veel dingen hadden al lange tijd geleden doorgevoerd moeten worden. Maar de Formule 1 is ook een competitie en dat maakt het lastig om iemand die het geld wel heeft en wil uitgeven, te stoppen. Dat is moeilijk, maar dan resteren nog genoeg andere ideeën om de kosten te verminderen."

"Teams geven veel geld uit aan aerodynamica. Ik heb nooit begrepen waarom aerodynamica zo belangrijk is. Ik snap dat grote teams windtunnels hebben en daar complete programma's in draaien, maar het belang van aerodynamica is alleen via de reglementen te beperken. Denk aan een vlakke bodemplaat, bredere banden om de nadruk meer op mechanische dan op aerodynamische grip te leggen. De windtunnel blijft, maar speelt dan een minder prominente rol."

Lotus-teambaas Eric Boullier sluit zich bij die woorden aan. "De schijnwerpers zijn nu op ons gericht, maar wij zijn zeker niet de enige die worstelen. Zonder aandeelhouders die financieel bijdragen aan een renstal is het een kwestie van overleven. Iedereen is het erover eens dat de kosten in de Formule 1 te hoog zijn. Het gaat om veel geld en is voor velen niet op te hoesten. Het is zaak om de uitgaven te verminderen en de inkomsten te verhogen, er moet iets gebeuren."

Ach, er is dus weinig verschil met het betaald voetbal.....
Aandeelhouders willen verdienen. Verder zou je wel knettergek zijn om te denken dat je met F1 geld gaat verdienen. Zeker als achterhoedeteam is er eigenlijk geen enkele logische redenering te bedenken op grond waarvan je in de F1 zou moeten blijven.

Formule 1 is een dure sport en dat weet je als je in de F1 gaat stappen, is niets nieuws. Als je daar geen geld voor hebt, dan moet je maar iets anders gaan doen.
Dit is al jaren een lastig probleem en zal nog jaren een lastig probleem blijven.
