Jolyon Palmer snelste op eerste testdag, Kelvin Snoeks zesde

Jolyon Palmer heeft het testseizoen van de Formule 2 als snelste geopend. De 19-jarige Brit reed in het laatste uur de snelste tijd en bleef daarmee Philipp Eng en Johan Jokinen voor. De enige Nederlander in de klasse, Kelvin Snoeks, eindigde als zesde.

Het was voor veel coureurs een waardevolle eerste testdag op het Britse circuit Snetterton. Jolyon Palmer wist het meeste uit de paar uur testen te halen en reed een 59.512 als snelste tijd. Philipp Eng, die in de ochtend nog de snelste was, probeerde te reageren op de snelle tijd van Palmer, maar kwam uiteindelijk 0.155 seconden tekort. Johan Jokinen reed op ruim drie tienden achterstand de derde tijd.

Dean Stoneman stormde door de top tien heen om uiteindelijk op de vierde plaats te eindigen, nog voor ex-GP2 Asia-coureur Will Bratt. Kelvin Snoeks, de enige Nederlander in de Formule 2 dit seizoen, reed een keurige eerste testsessie met een zesde tijd als resultaat. Snoeks kwam ruim een halve seconde tekort op de tijd van Palmer, maar slechts twee duizendsten voor de vijfde plaats.

Morgen wordt er verder getest door de Formule 2 op Snetterton.
