Jolyon Palmer wint seizoensopener op Silverstone

Jolyon Palmer heeft vanmiddag tijdens de eerste race van het Formule 2-weekend op Silverstone de overwinning voor zich opgeëist. De zoon van de baas van de Formule 2, Jonathan Palmer, domineerde van start tot finish en liet Dean Stoneman achter zich.

Stonemaan maakte een goede start en schoot van de derde startplaats naar de tweede stek vlak achter Palmer. Stoneman kon Palmer lang volgen, maar door een spin op de helft van de race verloor Stoneman de aansluiting en kon Palmer rustig naar de overwinning rijden. Het was zijn eerste zege in de Formule 2.

Daarachter ontwikkelde zich vanaf de start al een leuk gevecht om de derde plaats tussen Johan Jokinen, Philipp Eng en Sergey Afanasiev. Drie dik gingen de heren door Copse, maar Jokinen werd hierbij op het gras geduwd en viel ver terug. Even later moest Jokinen helemaal opgeven en zodoende pakte Afanasiev de derde plaats voor Philipp Eng.

Kelvin Snoeks kende een moeizame race en eindigde als twaalfde op ruim 37 seconden achterstand op Palmer. De Belg Benjamin Bailly reed naar de elfde plaats.
