Jolyon Palmer verslaat Bailly in kwalificatie voor eerste race

Kampioenschapsleider Jolyon Palmer zal de eerste Formule 2-race op het circuit van Portimao vanaf de pole position vertrekken. De Brit was met zijn 1:35.700 een dikke twee tienden sneller dan Benjamin Bailly. Kelvin Snoeks kwalificeerde zich als elfde.

Bailly, de pacesetter in beide vrije trainingen, haalde het net niet in de kwalificatie. De Belg kwam 0.215 seconden tekort op de tijd van Palmer. Bailly werd echter op de voet gevolgd door Jack Clarke , Nicola de Marco, Kazim Vasiliauskas en Philipp Eng die allen slechts enkele honderdsten tekort kwamen op de tijd van Bailly.

Titelkandidaat Dean Stoneman kwalificeerde zich slechts als negende, Kelvin Snoeks pakte met een achterstand van bijna acht tienden op Bailly de elfde startplaats.
