Jolyon Palmer zet snelste tijd neer tijdens natte eerste training

Kampioenschapsleider Jolyon Palmer is het Formule 2-weekend in Tsjechië sterk begonnen. Op een nat circuit van Brno reed de Brit een 2:06.401 als snelste tijd en bleef daarmee Nicola De Marco voor met ruim twee tienden. De Belg Benjamin Bailly reed een sterke derde tijd.

Het regent al sinds gisteravond onafgebroken in Brno en de eerste training ging dan ook van start op een natte baan. Palmer stond vrijwel de hele training aan kop, die met nog tien minuten te gaan werd stilgelegd vanwege een gestrande auto. Er was daarna niet genoeg tijd meer voor een herstart, dus bleef de kampioenschapsleider bovenaan staan.

Palmer was hiermee ruim twee tienden sneller dan Nicola De Marco, die een sterke tweede tijd reed op het circuit waar hij in 2009 goed presteerde. Benjamin Bailly reed naar de derde tijd, gevolgd door Will Bratt en Kazim Vasiliauskas. Sergei Afanasiev reed op bijna een volle seconde de zesde tijd, terwijl Philipp Eng als zevende eindigde. Titelkandidaat Dean Stoneman kwam niet verder dan de achtste tijd. Kelvin Snoeks reed bij zijn terugkeer in de Formule 2, nadat hij vorig weekend op Brands Hatch moest missen vanwege een blessure, de twaalfde tijd op 1,9 seconden achterstand.
