Robin Frijns zet zinnen voor 2011 op Formule 2

Formule BMW Europa-kampioen Robin Frijns richt zijn vizier op een plek in de Formule 2 voor volgend jaar. De Nederlander voelde de wagen in Valencia tijdens een testdag aan de tand en beleefde de nodige plezier. Frijns: Ik heb de hele dag genoten.

Het is een wereld van verschil, van Formule BMW met 150 pk naar Formule 2 met 425 pk, vervolgt de 19-jarige coureur. Het vereist een andere rijstijl, heel geleidelijk sturen en gas geven. In de eerste sessie was ik vooral daar mee bezig, want ik worstelde met de tractie.

Het ging echter steeds beter, en ik verraste mezelf door aan het einde nog maar twee tienden achter te staan op Adrian Valles. De Formule 2-auto is indrukwekkend en het kampioenschap heeft veel waarde. En als je als coureur goed bent, dan sta je ook vooraan. Het grootste probleem is het verkrijgen van het benodigde budget. Ik overweeg alles en bekijk in de winter hoe we er voor staan.
