Roberto Merhi terug voor seizoensfinale in Abu Dhabi

Oud Formule 1-coureur Roberto Merhi is door Rapax opgeroepen om de laatste twee races van het team in de Formule 2 te rijden. Merhi maakte eerder dit jaar al zijn opwachting voor het team in Spa en Monza en scoorde in Monza zijn beste resultaat met een vijfde plaats.

Merhi moest de races in Jerez aan zich voorbij laten gaan omdat Rapax koos voor de diensten van Formule V8-coureur Rene Binder. Merhi reed in 2015 enkele races in de Formule 1 voor het voormalige Manor Marussia F1-team. In 2016 verdween de Spanjaard op de achtergrond, maar dit jaar dook Merhi opeens op bij de Formule 2-races in Barcelona. Voor Rapax worden de races in Abu Dhabi de laatste races in de Formule 2: het team heeft besloten zich terug te trekken uit de opstapklasse.
