Jack Aitken maakt bij ART sprong naar Formule 2

Jack Aitken promoveert van de GP3 naar de Formule 2. Dat doet de 22-jarige Brit bij het team van ART Grand Prix. Afgelopen seizoen kwam hij voor ART uit in de GP3. Met één overwinning en een totaal van 141 punten eindigde hij op grote afstand van kampioen George Russell als tweede.

Dit seizoen komen de twee elkaar waarschijnlijk in de Formule 2 weer tegen, al is Russell nog nergens bevestigd voor 2018. De kans bestaat dat de twee Britten opnieuw teamgenoten worden bij ART Grand Prix. Aitken maakt die sprong sowieso en hij blijft ook verbonden aan de Renault-opleiding.

"Vanzelfsprekend ben ik verguld om ook dit jaar voor ART Grand Prix te racen en om samen de uitdaging van de Formule 2 aan te gaan. Ik heb veel vrienden binnen het team en ik heb het vertrouwen dat we dit jaar nog beter kunnen presteren dan vorig seizoen. We leggen de lat hoog en pushen hard. Rookie of niet, ik wil zoals altijd gelijk vooraan meedoen", aldus Aitken.
