Formule 2 houdt zelfde kalender in 2019, slechts 8 Formule 3-weekenden

De FIA heeft bekendgemaakt hoe de kalenders van de Formule 2 en de nieuwe Formule 3 vormgegeven zijn. De laatste opstapklasse richting de Formule 1 behoudt dezelfde twaalf raceweekenden als in 2018, de vervanger van de GP3 krijgt acht weekenden in het voorprogramma.

Het eerste Formule 3-seizoen eindigt al eind september, als er in het voorprogramma van de Russische Grand Prix gereden wordt. In 2018 reden de GP3-coureurs ook nog tijdens het weekend van de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi, maar dat is nu losgelaten. Mogelijk is daarvoor gekozen om de Formule 3-race in Macau met de nieuwe Formule 3-reglementen te laten rijden.

De organisatie in Macau lijkt daar echter niet veel in te zien. Ze lijken niet bereid te zijn om de veiligheidsvoorzieningen van het stratencircuit te verbeteren naar een FIA Grade 2-status, wat wel vereist is om een race met de nieuwe Formule 3-auto's te laten plaatsvinden.

De kalender van de Formule 2 blijft in 2019 grotendeels ongewijzigd. Het seizoen begint eind maart in Bahrein en eindigt op 1 december in Abu Dhabi.
