Mirko Bortolotti maakt rentree in Formule 2 in 2011

Mirko Bortolotti zal komend seizoen terugkeren naar de Formule 2, zo is vandaag bekend gemaakt. De Italiaanse coureur reed in 2009 al in de destijds nieuwe klasse, maar besloot voor 2010 GP3 te gaan rijden.

Bortolotti eindigde in 2009 als vierde in het kampioenschap, waarna het in 2010 allemaal bergafwaarts ging. Hij eindigde slechts als elfde in de GP3 Series en verloor zijn plaats in de Ferrari Young Driver Academy. Met een tweede seizoen in de Formule 2 hoopt de 21-jarige zijn carriere weer terug op de rails te krijgen.

"Ik heb eerder al Formule 2 gereden en heb daar erg goede dingen laten zien", vertelde Bortolotti. "Ik ben blij dat ik terug kan keren en ik wil iedereen bedanken die me daarbij heeft geholpen. Het zal zeker niet gemakkelijk worden, maar ik geloof altijd in mijn eigen kwaliteiten. 2009 was een belangrijk jaar voor me en nu weet ik precies hoe het er in het kampioenschap aan toe gaat, dat zal dit seizoen zeker helpen."
