'Geld en logistieke problemen reden achter ontbreken F2 op Hockenheim'

Het Duitse Grand Prix-weekend is misschien wel de opvallendste afwezige op de Formule 2-kalender. De promotors van de race hebben nog wel geprobeerd om de klasse binnen te halen toen bekend werd dat Mick Schumacher deel zou gaan nemen.

Schumacher maakt dit jaar zijn debuut in de Formule 2, nadat hij vorig jaar met een uitzonderlijk sterke tweede seizoenshelft kampioen werd in het Europees Formule 3. Dit seizoen rijdt hij voor Prema, maar veel geluk heeft hij in zijn nieuwe klasse nog niet gehad. De Duitser heeft pas 26 punten gescoord, waarmee hij veertiende staat in het kampioenschap.

Schumacher wel in actie met F2004

Zijn populariteit in Duitsland lijdt daar echter niet onder. De zoon van zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Michael had voor de Duitse Grand Prix als een publiekstrekker kunnen werken, maar de Formule 2 komt niet in actie op Hockenheim. Pogingen van de promotors om de race aan de kalender toe te voegen, mislukten volgens directeur Jorn Teske van de Hockenheimring omwille van kosten en logistieke problemen.

"We hebben het nog harder geprobeerd toen de kalender al bekendgemaakt was", vertelde Teske aan GPToday.net. "Er waren veel initiatieven om de Formule 2 naar Hockenheim te brengen, vooral dit jaar, toen duidelijk werd wat de impact van Mick is op de Duitse markt. Ze hebben geprobeerd en andere race in Duitsland toe te voegen, maar dat lukte uiteindelijk niet door geld, logistieke redenen en waarschijnlijk ook tijd."

Ondanks het ontbreken van de Formule 2 zal Mick Schumacher wel op Hockenheim te bewonderen zijn in een racebolide. Hij zal een tweetal demonstratieruns rijden met de Ferrari F2004, waarmee Michael Schumacher in 2004 voor de zevende keer wereldkampioen werd. Daarnaast kunnen de Duitse fans races van de Formule 4 en de Porsche Supercup verwachten.

Ik heb het altijd verbazingwekkend gevonden dat Duitsland zoveel financiële moeilijkheden heeft, zitten meerdere grote automakers daar en blijkbaar wil niemand het geld investeren in het circuit voor Formule 1.

Ik heb het altijd verbazingwekkend gevonden dat Duitsland zoveel financiële moeilijkheden heeft, zitten meerdere grote automakers daar en blijkbaar wil niemand het geld investeren in het circuit voor Formule 1.
Je zou denken dat Mercedes daar toch wel belang naar had om gewoon naamsponsor van het circuit te zijn als F1 daar wordt gehouden.

Naar mijn mening is de verbouwing van het oude naar huidige Hockenheim de grootste boosdoener van alle problemen.

Het huidige Hockenheim heeft voor mij 0.0% karakter. Ik zeg niet dat de races op het oude Hockenheim per definitie beter waren, maar het was toen tenminste wel een baan met karakter. De Hockenheim-ring was toen een naam dat ontzag inboezemde terwijl nu... tsja, het echt een karakterloos baantje is die het racen niet echt ten goede gekomen is, en de Duutsers zich ook niet echt meer mee lijken te identificeren.

  Maar om naar een race toe te gaan is er geen betere als die van Hockenheim, je ziet veel van de baan voor weinig geld, en het eten is daar ook redelijk, (op zijn Duits)

  De Nurburgring is in mijn optiek een vele malen leuker circuit, hoe vaak ze Hockenheim ook nog gaan verbouwen.
