James Cole nieuwste toevoeging aan Formule 2-veld voor 2011

James Cole zal komend seizoen debuteren in de Formule 2, zo werd vandaag bekend gemaakt. De 22-jarige Britse coureur, die vorig jaar vice-kampioen werd in de National Class van de Britse Formule 3, maakte indruk op Formule 2-baas Jonathan Palmer tijdens de testsessie op Snetterton.

Volgens Palmer is Cole een echte toevoeging voor de Formule 2. "James heeft al vele successen geboekt in zijn carriére en we zijn blij dat hij dit seizoen in de Formule 2 gaat racen. Hij paste zich tijdens de tests in Silverstone en Snetterton erg snel aan aan de auto en was meteen al snel. Ik ben benieuwd wat hij dit jaar kan bereiken op echte Formule 1-circuits en tegen sterke tegenstanders."

Cole prijst vooral de gelijkheid tussen de coureurs in de Formule 2. "Ik heb voor de Formule 2 gekozen omdat het een erg fijne auto is om mee te racen. Verder heeft iedereen dezelfde materialen tot zijn beschikking, waarbij je dus niet meer hoeft te betalen voor een betere auto. Mijn eerste test in Silverstone verliep erg goed en we reden meteen bij de beste zes. Ik zou blij zijn als ik regelmatig in de top zes kan eindigen dit seizoen en ik kijk er in ieder geval erg naar uit", aldus Cole.
