Juan Manuel Correa ruim twee maanden na horrorcrash weer thuis

Juan Manuel Correa is weer thuis. De Ecuadoraans-Amerikaanse coureur heeft het ziekenhuis in Londen afgelopen week mogen verlaten en is inmiddels teruggekeerd in thuisstad Miami.

Eind augustus was Correa betrokken bij het dodelijke ongeluk van Anthoine Hubert op Spa-Francorchamps. Daar waar de Fransman het leven liet door die noodlottige crash, werd Correa met zware verwondingen afgevoerd naar het ziekenhuis. Vooral zijn rechter onderbeen was er slecht aan toe na het ongeluk, maar de artsen konden hem daar pas aan helpen nadat de coureur uit een kunstmatig coma ontwaakt was, waarin hij gebracht werd vanwege ademhalingsproblemen.

Inmiddels heeft Correa een tweetal operaties aan zijn benen achter de rug en is begonnen met zijn revalidatie. De eerste fase van het herstel lijkt redelijk goed verlopen te zijn, want de jonge coureur mocht eerder deze week het ziekenhuis in Londen verlaten. Vervolgens is hij teruggevlogen naar zijn thuisstad Miami, waar hij in de komende maanden zijn revalidatie verder zal voortzetten. Dat maakte Correa zelf bekend met een videoboodschap op zijn sociale kanalen.

Super!! Wat zal hij blij zijn dat hij weer thuis is. Is sneller gegaan dan ik dacht.
Wens hem heel veel kracht bij de lange weg die hij te gaan heeft.
Wat zal zijn hondje blij zijn geweest toen hij weer thuis kwam na al die tijd.
