Shwartzman en Schumacher bij Prema in 2020, Armstrong naar ART Grand Prix

Ferrari heeft voor 2020 liefst vijf Academy-coureurs weten onder te brengen in de Formule 2. Zo blijft Mick Schumacher bij Prema Racing, waar hij Robert Shwartzman als teamgenoot tegenkomt.

Momenteel heeft de Ferrari Driver Academy tien leden, waarvan er drie uitkomen in het Esports-kampioenschap van de Formule 1. In totaal heeft de Scuderia dus zeven coureurs in het opleidingsprogramma voor de echte circuits zitten, waarvan er dus slechts twee niet in de Formule 2 gaan rijden in 2020: dat zijn de Brazilianen Enzo Fittipaldi en Gianluca Petecof. De overigen hebben allemaal een plekje gekregen.

Dat begint bij Prema Racing, dat dit jaar door Schumacher al banden had met de Ferrari Driver Academy. De Duitser, zoon van zevenvoudig wereldkampioen Michael, blijft ook in 2020 bij het Italiaanse team. Daar krijgt hij gezelschap van Shwartzman, die in 2019 met Prema de titel wist te behalen in het eerste seizoen van de FIA Formule 3.

Ook de nummer 2 van dat kampioenschap was een coureur uit de Driver Academy van Ferrari. Voor Marcus Armstrong geldt ook dat hij promoveert naar de Formule 2. Hij wordt de opvolger van Formule 2-kampioen Nyck de Vries bij ART Grand Prix. Callum Ilott maakt voor 2020 de overstap van het Sauber Junior Team naar UNI Virtuosi, terwijl Giuliano Alesi Trident verlaat voor een avontuur bij HWA Racelab. Daar wordt hij de teamgenoot van Artem Markelov.

Het jaar van de waarheid voor Schumacher. Nu moet hij het laten zien. Ben erg benieuwd of hij ook gelijk zijn (F2) rookie teamgenoot Shwartzman zal weten te verslaan. Dat is hij wel aan zijn stand verplicht.

  Mee eens. Eigenlijk had hij het al moeten laten zien, zonder persé de winst te pakken. Ik vond hem echter, door afwezigheid van bijzondere acties op de baan, niet meer dan veldvulling in 2019.
