Mirko Bortolotti pakt meteen pole op Silverstone bij comeback

Mirko Bortolotti heeft zojuist de eerste pole position van het Formule 2-seizoen gescoord. De Italiaan, die zijn rentree maakt na een jaar afwezigheid, was een dikke tiende sneller dan debutant Miki Monras.

Bortolotti kwam pas na tien minuten voor het eerst het circuit op, maar ging meteen naar de kop van de tijdenlijst. Uiteindelijk was de Italiaan de eerste coureur die dit weekend onder de 1:51 dook met zijn 1:50.834. Hij was er zo erg van overtuigd dat hij de pole position veroverd had dat de Italiaan met nog vijf minuten te gaan in de sessie zijn auto in parc ferme parkeerde bij het bord van 'P1'.

Uiteindelijk bleek het ook genoeg, maar Miki Monras kwam nog dichtbij met slechts 0.108 seconden achterstand op Bortolotti. Will Bratt en Alex Brundle eindigden als derde en vierde, gevolgd door Mihai Marinescu, Tobias Hegewald, debutant Ramon Pineiro en Jack Clarke.
