Red Bull-junior Tsunoda promoveert met Carlin naar Formule 2

Yuki Tsunoda maakt in 2020 promotie naar de Formule 2. De Japanner zal komend seizoen in actie komen namens Carlin, nadat hij afgelopen seizoen debuteerde in de Formule 3.

Tussen 2016 en 2018 reed Tsunoda in het Japanse Formule 4-kampioenschap, waarbij hij achtereenvolgens 16de, derde en eerste werd. Dat was voldoende om promotie af te dwingen naar het FIA Formule 3, waarin hij absoluut geen verkeerde indruk achterliet. Tsunoda kwam uit voor Jenzer Motorsport en werd met één overwinning en in totaal drie podiumplaatsen negende in het kampioenschap.

Bovendien is Tsunoda onderdeel van de opleidingsprogramma's van zowel Honda als Red Bull. Met zijn prestaties in de Formule 3 heeft hij voldoende indruk weten te maken op zijn bazen in die programma's, maar ook op Carlin. Dat team geeft de Japanner aankomend seizoen om zijn kunsten te vertonen in de Formule 2. Wie zijn teamgenoot wordt, is nog niet bekend.

Wel maakte Honda bekend dat Teppei Nattori, de Japanner die vorig jaar samen met Tsunoda in de Formule 3 reed, terug zal keren naar zijn thuisland. Hij zal uitkomen in het Japanse Formule 3, dat in 2020 door het leven gaat als Super Formula Lights. In de FIA Formule 3 kwam Nattori niet zo goed uit de verf als Tsunoda: hij scoorde slechts één puntje.

Ik zie dat er (tot nu toe nog) namen ontbreken van coureurs die vorig jaar nog een beetje strijd leverden met de Vries, zoals Ghiotto, Aitken , Sette Camara, Matsushita (en natuurllijk Latifi). Er zijn nog wat stoeltjes te verdelen, maar het kan dus zomaar zijn dat Mick Schumacher hierdoor mee gaat doen voor de eindoverwinning, of doen die coureurs hierboven wel gewoon weer mee, maar zijn ze nog niet officieel bevestigd?

  Robert Schwarzman was na 2 dagen testen al sneller dan Schumacher, ik zie voorlopig nog niet gebeuren dat Mick voor de titel kan gaan, zowel Schwarzman als Armstrong zijn volgens mij echt beter
