Ervaren Aitken krijgt bij Campos gezelschap van rookie Samaia

Jack Aitken blijft nog een jaar actief in de Formule 2. De Koreaanse Brit plakt er een jaar aan vast bij Campos Racing, waar hij gezelschap krijgt van de Braziliaanse nieuwkomer Guilherme Samaia.

Aitken begint in 2020 aan zijn derde seizoen in de Formule 2 en zijn tweede in dienst van Campos. Met dat team wist hij vorig jaar drie races te winnen, op weg naar de vijfde plaats in het kampioenschap. Recent werd duidelijk dat Aitken het opleidingsprogramma van Renault verlaten heeft en dat hij bij Williams nu reservecoureur wordt. Die werkzaamheden combineert hij dus met een derde F2-seizoen.

"De F2 levert wat van de spannendste en krapste races die je ter wereld gaat vinden. Ik ben dus erg blij dat ik in 2020 terug kan keren", vertelt Aitken over zijn nieuwe contract bij Campos. "Het was voor mij belangrijk om een nieuw zitje te vinden voor dit jaar, en het was logisch om nog een jaar verder te bouwen op het uitstekende werk dat we vorig seizoen geleverd hebben met Campos."

Samaia blij met ervaren teamgenoot bij Campos

De ervaren Aitken krijgt bij het Spaanse Campos dus gezelschap van een Braziliaanse nieuwkomer. Samaia testte in december voor het eerst in een F2-bolide van Campos en maakte tijdens die test voldoende indruk om een zitje voor 2020 af te dwingen. In het verleden werd Samaia al eens Braziliaans Formule 3-kampioen en afgelopen seizoen nam hij nog deel aan de Euroformula Open Championship.

"Ik ben erg blij dat ik bij Campos Racing ga rijden tijdens het Formule 2-seizoen 2020", zegt Samaia. "Ik denk dat ik niet op een betere plaats het kampioenschap had kunnen betreden. Campos liet vorig jaar en in hun historie sterke en solide resultaten zien. Ze zijn zeer professioneel en betrouwbaar. Ik prijs me gelukkig met zo'n ervaren team en teamgenoot, van wie ik veel ga leren."
