Red Bull voegt Daruvala aan Junior Team toe en stalt hem bij Carlin

Jehan Daruvala zet maakt in 2020 de stap naar de Formule 2. De Indiër kondigde aan dat hij in het nieuwe seizoen als onderdeel van het Red Bull Junior Team voor Carlin racet.

Bij Carlin wordt Daruvala de teamgenoot van Yuki Tsunoda, die eveneens onderdeel is van het opleidingsprogramma van Red Bull. Vorig jaar kwam Daruvala nog uit in het FIA Formule 3, waar hij uitkwam voor Prema. Met twee zeges en in totaal zeven podiumplaatsen eindigde hij op de derde plaats in het kampioenschap, waarbij hij alleen teamgenoten Robert Shwartzman en Marcus Armstrong voor zich moest dulden.

De 21-jarige Daruvala heeft in het verleden al twee seizoenen voor Carlin geracet in het Europees Formule 3-kampioenschap en keert in die zin dus terug op het oude nest. "Ik ben blij dat ik een derde seizoen ga afwerken bij Carlin. He tis geweldig om weer samen te werken met een aantal bekende gezichten aan de zijde van de engineers, terwijl ik de stap naar de F2 maak", stelt Daruvala.

"Het is voor mij een nieuwe uitdaging, maar ik denk dat er voor iedereen nieuwe dingen te leren zijn dit jaar, inclusief de teams. Ik ben erg trots dat ik het seizoen aanvang als Red Bull Junior, wat natuurlijk voor extra druk zorgt. Ik geloof echter dat ik het platform heb om te leveren, dus het is aan mij. Ik kan niet wachten om te beginnen."
