Matteo Nannini draait dubbel programma voor HWA Racelab

Matteo Nannini is de eerste coureur die profiteert van het feit dat de Formule 2 en de Formule 3 niet meer in dezelfde weekenden racen. De twee opstapklasses wisselen elkaar komend seizoen af in het voorprogramma van de Formule 1, wat het voor rijders mogelijk maakt om in beide series op te draven.

De 17-jarige Matteo Nannini gaat dat doen namens HWA Racelab. Het neefje van oud Formule 1-coureur Alessandro Nannini krijgt in de Formule 2 gezelschap van Alessio Deledda. Wie zijn teamgenoten in de Formule 3 worden is nog niet bekendgemaakt.

"Ik kijk uit naar een lekker druk seizoen", begint Nannini. "45 races in 2021, dat is een hoop. Ik voel me er echter klaar voor en ben vastberaden om te groeien als coureur, met dank aan de mogelijkheid om zowel in de Formule 2 als in de Formule 3 te racen. Het wordt mijn eerste seizoen in de Formule 2. Makkelijk zal het niet gaan, maar ik wil graag zoveel mogelijk leren."

"In de Formule 3 betreft het mijn tweede seizoen en ik ben vol vertrouwen. Ik weet zeker dat HWA me van een competitief pakket zal voorzien waardoor ik goed kan presteren. Ik geloof in het talentenprogramma van HWA en ik ben ervan overtuigd dat mijn dubbele programma in 2021 me weer een stap dichter bij de Formule 1 zal brengen."
