Pourchaire jongste winnaar ooit in F2 door zege in hoofdrace

Theo Pourchaire is door de zege in de hoofdrace in Monaco de allerjongste winnaar in de Formule 2. Dat record was eerst in handen van F1-coureur Lando Norris.

De 17-jarige rookie leidde de wedstrijd in het vorstendom vanaf begin tot eind. De ART Grand Prix- coureur finishte voor Oscar Piastri, ook een debutant in deze opstapklasse. Beiden vochten vorig jaar in de F3 om de titel die Piastri uiteindelijk won. De nummer drie van de hoofdrace was Felipe Drugovich.

Richard Verschoor belandde na vanochtend opnieuw in de punten met een toptienfinish. Landgenoot Bent Viscaal finishte vlak achter Verschoor en was dichtbij zijn eerste punt van dit seizoen.

Gianyu Zhou eindigde vijfde en blijft daarmee bovenaan in de stand met 68 punten. Piastri schoof op naar de tweede positie dankzij twee podia op de zaterdag en heeft 52 punten. Pourchaire klom door zijn zege naar de derde plek en heeft totaal 45 punten gescoord. Verschoor staat negende met 23 punten.

Over twee weken, 4-6 juni, staat de volgende drie races op het programma. Dan reist de F2 af naar het stratencircuit van Baku in Azerbeidzjan.
