Theo Pourchaire wacht bijzonder cadeautje na zege in Monaco

De 17-jarige Theo Pourchaire werd in Monaco de jongste winnaar ooit in de Formule 2 na zijn zege in de hoofdrace. Door zijn eerste triomf krijgt de Fransman een bijzondere beloning van zijn team ART Grand Prix.

Pourchaire zegt in een gastcolunn voor de officiële F2-website hierover: "Het team gaat lachen als ze dit artikel lezen. Het team zei dat als ik de hoofdrace zou winnen, dat ik een foto van mijzelf krijg aan de binnenkant van onze vrachtwagen."

Dit bijzondere aandenken is niet ongewoon bij ART. Bekende oudgedienden gingen de F2-rookie al voor na het behalen van hun eerste zege voor dit team. "In de vrachtwagen heb je ook foto's van Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Stoffel Vandoorne, George Russell, Nico Hülkenberg. Misschien is het tijd voor het plaatsen van mijn foto, maar we zullen zien."

Hoogtepunt van het weekend

De 17-jarige coureur blikt in zijn column ook terug op zijn weekend. Verrassend genoeg is het winnen in het vorstendom niet zijn hoogtepunt. "Het behalen van de poleposition pik ik eruit, omdat het pas mijn tweede sessie was in de straten van Monaco. Om dan pole te pakken, was geweldig. Het is niet gemakkelijk om daar pole te pakken. Het ging een beetje moeizaam in de kwalificatie, dus ik ben wel trots. Ik gaf alles en het was een erg, erg goed rondje."

Plezier in de Franse Rivièra

Rijden in het iconische Monaco is speciaal voor Pourchaire. De vangrails die op hem af komen bij hoge snelheid geven een grote kick. "Ik heb genoten, van de risico’s....Het is geweldig om daar rond te rijden in een F2-auto met meer dan 600 pk. Het is ongelooflijk, echt ongelooflijk."

Op 5 en 6 juni komt Pourchaire weer in actie op een ander stratencircuit. Dan reist het F2-circus af naar Baku in Azerbeidzjan.

Volgens mij is Pourchaire echt een heel groot talent. Weet niet of er al een F1 team is dat hem in een opleidingsprogramma heeft zitten. Sowieso lijkt het me dat deze jongen F1 gaat halen en ben eigenlijk nu al benieuwd wat hij kan laten zien

  Hij is lid van het Sauber Junior Team. Alfa zou best een plek voor hem kunnen hebben als Kimi waarschijnlijk stopt in 2022.
