Viscaal pak in Jeddah tweede plaats dankzij tijdstraffen concurrentie

Bent Viscaal scoorde zaterdagavond bij de tweede sprintace in Saoedi-Arabië zijn tweede podiumplaats van het seizoen. De Nederlander finishte achter winnaar Oscar Piastri op de tweede positie. Robert Shwartzman maakte het ereschavot compleet.

Viscaal mocht aanvankelijk op pole starten dankzij zijn tiende plek in de eerste wedstrijd op de zaterdag. Echter, dat feest ging niet door. Jehan Daruvala kreeg na de eerste wedstrijd nog een tijdstraf, waardoor niet Viscaal, maar de Indiër vooraan mocht beginnen.

In de wedstrijd viel Viscaal terug naar de vierde plek en dus buiten het podium. Maar doordat Daruvala en Christian Lundgaard beiden een vijf-seconden-straf kregen voor het overschrijden van de baanlimieten, werd de Nederlander alsnog tweede.

In het kampioenschap kan Piastri door zijn vierde zege van het seizoen de titel bijna niet meer ontgaan. De hoofdrace in de straten van Jeddah staat vanmiddag op programma.
