Van Amersfoort Racing gediskwalificeerd en moet P3 inleveren

Het F2-team Van Amersfoort Racing kon zijn geluk niet op met een historische podiumplaats in de sprintrace van zaterdag. Jake Hughes kwam op het supersnelle stratencircuit in Jeddah als derde over de meet in een wedstrijd vol chaos.

Echter, de bokaal voor zijn puike prestaties moest de Brit later alweer inleveren door een diskwalificatie. De Nederlandse bolide voldeed niet aan het technische reglement. De plank op zijn auto bleek een maximale dikte van 3,6 mm te hebben, wat niet voldoet aan de vereiste dikte van 5 mm +/- 1 mm. Door de diskwalificatie schoof Felipe Drugovich op naar P3. Richard Verschoor profiteerde ook en werd vijfde.

Hughes zei over deze deceptie op Twitter: "Helaas zijn we gediskwalificeerd voor de spintrace. Een technische mankement die ons vertraagde, maar regels zijn regels en we accepteren dat we een fout hebben gemaakt. Nog steeds erg trots op wat we op dit moment laten zien en we zijn er zo snel mogelijk weer."

Op revanche hoeft Hughes niet lang te wachten. Zondagmiddag 15.45 uur Nederlandse tijd staat de hoofdrace op het programma.
