Update: Verschoor verliest zege in Spielberg na straf

Update: De FIA moet altijd benzinemonsters uit de tank halen ter controle. Verschoor had echter te weinig benzine aan boord toen de Hollander stil viel in de uitloopronde. Hierdoor wordt de Trident-coureur uit de uitslag geschrapt. Jehan Daruvala is daarmee de nieuwe winnaar.

Op een opdrogende Red Bull Ring besloot Verschoor vanaf P8 op droogweerbanden te beginnen, terwijl de meeste coureurs voor en achter de Nederlander voor zekerheid kozen met de regenband.

De full wets hadden een licht voordeel in de openingsfase, maar dat verdween snel omdat de Safety Car de baan op moest komen vanwege de stilgevallen bolide van Marcus Armstrong, die op de zaterdag nog de sprintrace won. Door de neutralisatie werd de baan droger zonder dat Verschoor tijd verloor. In de rondes daarna schakelden steeds meer rijders over op droogweerbanden. Dat gaf Verschoor een pitstopvoordeel.

De Nederlander finishte voor Roberto Merhi, Jehan Daruvala en Logan Sargeant. Merhi kreeg echter een tijdstraf van vijf seconden vanwege overschrijden baanlimieten en werd teruggeworpen naar P5. Zo schoven Daruvala en Sargeant een plekje op naar P2 en P3.

Tijdens de uitloopronde viel de Trident-wagen van Verschoor stil. De 21-jarige rijder werd opgepikt door de Safety Car en teruggebracht naar de pits voor de podiumceremonie. Met de zege steeg Verschoor naar de vijfde plaats in het kampioenschap. Felipe Drugovich blijft ondanks een nul-resultaat ruimschoots aan de leiding in de rangschikking.

geweldig van Trident en Verschoor! lef getoond en uitstekend gereden.

Baalde wel van die penalty voor Mehri aan het eind, van 21 naar 2 was natuurlijk helemaal schitterend geweest.

Nou nee, die overwinning is hij waarschijnlijk kwijt

de reden dat hij stilviel in de uitloopronde was namelijk dat er geen benzine meer in de auto zat en dus kan men geen monster meer nemen

Dit is gewoon een gruwelijk domme fout van het team, dat je coureur zelfs inclusief SC, nog steeds stil valt zonder brandstof. Dit zou nooit mogen gebeuren natuurlijk, heel erg sneu voor Verschoor.
