Sprintrace: Lawson zegeviert en verslaat Daruvala in Frankrijk

Liam Lawson claimde zijn tweede overwinning van het seizoen op Paul Ricard. De Carlin-coureur maakte onderweg twee goede inhaalacties waardoor de Brit de zege naar zich toe trok. Jehan Daruvala behield de tweede plaats ondanks een felle strijd in de laatste ronden tussen negen coureurs. De hele top tien zat namelijk dicht op elkaar na een Safety Car halverwege de race.

Théo Pourchaire gaf de thuisfans vreugde met een sterke rit naar de derde plaats op het podium, vechtend tegen titelrivaal Felipe Drugovich.

Voor Richard Verschoor liep de wedstrijd uit op een deceptie. De Nederlander kwam niet van zijn startplek en moest naar de pits worden geduwd voor reparaties. Verschoor eindigde in het achterveld met vijf rondes achterstand op de nummer 1.

Met de overwinning schuift Lawson op naar de zesde plaats in het rijderskampioenschap met 71 punten. Daruvala behoudt zijn plek in de top vijf, nu op 88 punten op P4. Pourchaire staat derde met zijn totaal nu op 116 punten, vlak na Logan Sargeant met 118 punten. Drugovich leidt het kampioenschap met flinke marge. De MP-motorsport-coureur heeft 160 punten.

De hoofdrace is zondagochtend om 09.35 uur lokale en Nederlandse tijd.
