Sprintrace: Armstrong wint optocht in Zandvoort, podium MP Motorsport

De F2-sprintrace op Zandvoort was een ware optocht, die gewonnen werd door Marcus Armstrong. De Hitech-rijder trok de eentonige sprintwedstrijd naar zich toe bij de start en verdreef polesitter en MP Motorsport-coureur Clement Novalak naar de tweede positie. Dennis Hauger maakte de top drie compleet.

De wedstrijd in de Hollandse duinen was er één om snel te vergeten. De gehele top tien reed na de start en wat positiewisselingen in slagvolgorde naar de finish. Het uitstapje van Theo Pourchaire in de Tarzanbocht tijdens de openingsfase en wat rondvliegende duiven waren de hoogtepunten.

Toch kreeg de sprintrace een korte opleving door een neutralisatie, veroorzaakt door gestrande Tatiana Calderon. Voor het ingaan van de laatste en 29ste ronde ging het veld nog een keer los. Richard Verschoor, die de gehele race zesde reed, werd toch nog ingehaald door Ayumu Iwasa. Voor de rest veranderde vooraan niks.

Kampioenschapsleider Felipe Drugovich kon weinig uitrichten vanaf P10. De MP Motorsport-coureur kon wel in de DRS-zone komen van voorganger Jack Doohan, maar niet meer dan dat. De Braziliaan scoorde nog wel een punt dankzij het rijden van de snelse ronde.

Het gehele veld had moeite met passeren. Dat kwam doordat de DRS-activatie verder naar voren lag als bij de Formule 1 en Formule 3. Het totaal aantal inhaalacties was hierdoor amper op een hand te tellen.

Drugovich start zaterdagochtend de hoofdrace van poleposition en titelconcurrent Pourchaire start opnieuw van P16. De MP Motorsport-coureur heeft 208 punten, 47 punten meer dan Pourchaire. In totaal zijn er nog 102 punten te verzamelen in het kampioenschap. Na Zandvoort reist het circus nog af naar Italië en Abu Dhabi.

Deze race laat wel zien dat er in zandvoort toch nog wat inhaal opties gemist worden. Alle actie kwam uit ronde 1 en de ronde na de safety car.

Lawson reed aardig goed, ik denk dat daar de focus vol op zit in de race voor het zitje van Gasly tegen Herta mocht de FIA geen licensie geven aan hem
