Formule 2 spreekt van pioniersrol in plaats van rol als proefkonijn

Het is algemeen bekend dat de Formule 1 in de toekomst veel duurzamer wil gaan opereren. In 2026 gaat men dan ook rijden met een duurzame brandstof. De Formule 2 en de Formule 3 gaan aankomend jaar al rijden met een brandstof die voor 55 procent bestaat uit duurzame brandstof. Toch ziet men zichzelf niet als een soort proeftuin.

De Formule1 introduceert in 2026 een compleet nieuw motorreglement. De duurzame brandstof speelt een belangrijke rol bij dat gloednieuwe motorreglement. Eerder dit jaar maakte de Formule 2 en de Formule 3 bekend dat ze al in 2023 gaan rijden met een brandstof die voor 55 procent duurzaam is. Toch stappen de opstapklassen pas in 2027 over naar een volledig duurzame brandstof.

Pionier

Over de stap van de opstapklassen bestond de nodige twijfel. Men vreest namelijk dat de klassen zich laten gebruiken als een soort proefkonijn. CEO Bruno Michel wuift die beschuldigingen echter weg in gesprek met Motorsport.com: "Het is fantastisch. We testen niet voor de Formule 1 maar we zijn pioniers. Ik gebruik liever deze worden omdat hetgeen dat wij ontwikkelen anders kan zijn dan wat men in de Formule 1 ontwikkeld."

Algemene ontwikkelingsplan

Maar Michel weet ook wel dat men naar het grotere plaatje moet kijken. De opstapklassen vormen immers een belangrijk onderdeel van veel Formule 1-weekenden: "We zijn uiteraard onderdeel van het algemene ontwikkelingsplan van de Formule 1. Daar proberen we duurzamer te zijn vanaf 2026 en klimaatneutraal vanaf 2030. Het is goed dat we meegaan met die ontwikkelingen. Voor onszelf maar ook voor het Formule 1-programma."

ik herinner me dat een aantal jaren terug de V8 Supercars dat ook wilden invoeren . dus lieten ze bij wijze van proef in het raceweekend van Winton de autos van Holden, Ford Mercedes en Nissan met biobrandstoffen auftanken. En ineens ging Nissan als de brandweer. ze waren het hele seizoen achterhoede team geweest maar fabriceerden ineens een dubbele 1-2 finish. Red Bull Holden had daarentegen een dubbele Dnf: kapotte versnellingsbak en motorpech. ze schoven het onmiddellijk op de brandstof die de motor onherstelbaar zou beschadigen. achteraf was dat onzin want de bak uit Jamie Whincup zijn auto was toch al aan vervanging toe. men was alleen bang dat Nissan een oneerlijk voordeel ging krijgen daar waar ze eerst zoveel langzamer waren. gelukkig dat iedereen hier dezelfde motor heeft, heeft iedereen er evenveel voor als nadeel van
