Formula European Masters geeft het goede voorbeeld: Testverbod wordt opgeschort

Een goed initiatief van de nieuwe Formula European Masters-series (FEM). Het kampioenschap heeft besloten het testverbod op te schorten. De gedachte hier achter is dat men meer coureurs wil aantrekken voor hun eerste seizoen. Het voormalige FIA Europese Formule 3-kampioenschap, heeft tussen januari en midden februari een testverbod gehad. Coureurs hebben gedurende het jaar zes 'vrije dagen' om te testen. Deze tests mogen plaatsvinden buiten de officiële testsessies om.

FEM heeft nu onbeperkte tests toegestaan tot 24 maart, de vooravond van de eerste officiële test in Misano. Het kampioenschap kent haar eerste testsessie namelijk op 25 en 26 maart. Verder officiële tests zullen plaatsvinden op de het circuit van Zolder (11 april) en de Lausitzring (24 en 25 april). Vanaf 25 maart mogen de teams gebruik maken van de eerder aangegeven zes vrije dagen om te testen.

Het is met name onze landgenoot Frits van Amersfoort die hier op aandrong. "Dat is echt super positief," vertelde Frits van Amersfoort aan Autosport. "We worstelen en vechten nog steeds om coureurs te vinden en nu de coureurs geïnteresseerd zijn, kunnen we ze een test aanbieden in plaats van alleen maar te rijden op de simulator. Dit kan helpen bij het opbouwen van het kampioenschap."

Tot op heden hebben Double R Racing, Fortec Motorsports, Jo Zeller Racing, Motopark, Mücke Motorsport, PAVE Motorsport en Van Amersfoort Racing toegezegd om het kampioenschap te rijden. Tuki Tsunoda is tot op dit moment de enige coureur die officieel is vastgelegd voor Motopark. De rest van de teams hebben nog geen coureurs gevonden. Sophia Flörsch heeft de beschikking over een stoeltje bij Van Amersfoort. "Sophia zit op dit moment in de simulator. Het ziet er allemaal goed uit en ze kan niet wachten om in te stappen." Van Amersfoort is hoopvol dat het kampioenschap een goede positie kan verwerven op de autosport-ladder. "De markt is erg slecht, verschillende kampioenschappen liegen tegen elkaar over hoeveel auto's ze hebben. Dat is gewoon verschrikkelijk. Elke dag moet ik tegen mezelf zeggen 'Relax Frits'. Maar ik heb er alle vertrouwen in dat we met veertien of vijftien auto's voor het Formula European Masters-kampioenschap de serie draaiende zullen krijgen," besloot de eigenaar van het Nederlandse-team.

Ik denk toch dat James een punt heeft. Het testverbod is ingesteld uit kostenbesparing. Maar de grote teams hadden, ook na het testverbod, dat geld nog gewoon liggen en hebben het uitgegeven aan allerhande kostbare simulatie systemen.

Ook al is dit een utopie voor Formule 1 in de winter test, in season testen kan wel aangepast worden. Een max van 5 hele dagen testen per rijder zou al een hele stap vooruit zijn in plaats van een gelimiteerd aantal kilometers per filmdag.

In de F1 kunnen ze, met een invoeren van een budgetlimiet, ook het testen weer vrijgeven.

  @JAMES RAVEN: Het cruciale woord is 'budgetlimiet'. Als dat er niet is zul je zien dat de topteams als een zot gaan testen en het verschil met de rest nog groter wordt.

  Iets wat de FIA later ook door kreeg en ondervangen heeft door maxima te stellen aan windtunnel gebruik (tijd) en computer simulaties (Teraflops).
  Er zijn mensen die zeggen dat er voor sommige teams meer performance te halen valt wanneer ze hun (beperkte) budget aan een / enkele testdagen kunnen uitgeven.
