16-jarige Belg stapt in bij Van Amersfoort Racing

De pas 16-jarige Laurens Vanthoor krijgt dit jaar bij Van Amersfoort Racing in het Duits Formule 3-kampioenschap zijn eerste kans in de autosport. De jonge Belg komt uit de kartsport, waarin hij diverse titels won. Vanthoor is bij Van Amersfoort Racing de opvolger van kampioen Carlo van Dam, die nu in Japan rijdt.

Ik ben ontzettend blij dat ik dit jaar in de ATS Formule 3 Cup zal uitkomen, vertelt het Belgische talent. Na mijn kartperiode is dit een fantastische nieuwe uitdaging. Een Formule 3 is een compleet andere auto dat door de vleugels veel neerwaartse druk kent. Vooral in de bochten ga je veel sneller. Ook de remmen en de prestaties van de motor zijn indrukwekkend. Eigenlijk was ik verbaasd dat ik al in mijn eerste test in de Formule 3 zo snel aan de auto heb kunnen wennen. Verder is de Duitse Formule 3 Cup een mooi kampioenschap met meer dan dertig deelnemers aan de start.

Na mijn tests in de Formule 3 was het voor mij al snel duidelijk dat ik graag met Van Amersfoort Racing in zee wilde gaan. Ik werk heel prettig met ze samen en met de ervaring van Frits in de Formule 3 kan ik veel leren. Ik heb in de afgelopen periode veel testkilometers kunnen maken om zo goed mogelijk voorbereid aan de start van de eerste race op Hockenheim te staan. Ik kan bijna niet wachten tot het zover is. Graag wil ik mijn sponsoren bedanken voor deze schitterende mogelijkheid die ik met beide handen zal aangrijpen!
