Carlo van Dam twee keer tweede in openingsweekend

Carlo van Dam is in zijn debuutweekend in het Japanse Formule 3-kampioenschap twee keer als tweede geëindigd. De coureur van TOMs Toyota moest in beide races op de Fuji Speedway zijn meerdere erkennen in teamgenoot Takuto Iguchi, die vanzelfsprekend ook Van Dam voorgaat in het kampioenschap na twee races.

Op zijn website zegt Carlo van Dam over de race van gisteren: Ik had een goede start. Ik kon een positie winnen en kwam zo op de tweede plaats terecht. Daarmee was de spanning er wel uit, want ik was weliswaar sneller dan de rest, maar mijn teamgenoot Iguchi kon ik niet echt aanvallen. Ik verloor dit weekeinde teveel tijd in de derde sectie, een reeks krappe bochten waar je eigenlijk heel rustig doorheen moet rijden, want zodra je daar pusht verlies je meteen snelheid. Uiteindelijk nam ik een bocht te wijd en daarna was het gat geslagen. Ik kijk echter tevreden terug op mijn debuut hier.

Ik en mijn auto hoorden op Fuji dit weekeinde blijkbaar thuis op de tweede plaats en we hebben veel punten gescoord. We zijn met name op Fuji nog zoekende naar de juiste afstelling, dat merkten we al tijdens de tests hier. We zitten er in ieder geval goed bij en nu is het zaak nog meer progressie te boeken. Dinsdag testen we alweer op Motegi en ik kijk met veel plezier uit naar de volgende twee races die tijdens het laatste weekeinde van april worden verreden op het circuit Autopolis.
