Renger van der Zande wint tweede race op Hockenheim

Renger van der Zande heeft zojuist de tweede race in de Formule 3 Euroserie in Hockenheim op zijn naam geschreven. De Nederlander bouwde gestaag een voorsprong van vier seconden op richting de nummer twee, Christian Vietoris. Volkswagen-coureur Eduardo Mortara pakt zijn tweede podiumplaats van het weekeinde.

De race wordt vlak na de start geneutraliseerd. De auto van Charlie Kimball is blijven staan en wordt geraakt door Jens Klingmann. Na de herstart loopt Van der Zande gestaag weg bij zijn Duitse opponent. Van der Zande: "Mijn vizier was bij de finish nog helemaal schoon, dus het was de perfecte race. In de eerste paar ronden deed ik het nog rustig aan omdat ik niet wist hoe de baan erbij zou liggen na de Porsche Supercup race, maar daarna besloot ik vijf kwalificatieronden te rijden. Ik had in de eerste race natuurlijk wat geluk dat ik met inhaalmanouvres op de achtste plaats terechtkwam, maar in de tweede race was ik snel genoeg om vanaf pole position te winnen."

Het was een slechte dag voor de winnaar van gisteren, de Fin Mika Maki. Hij was op weg naar een goede positie in de punten, tot hij in aanraking kwam met Jean-Karl Vernay. Beiden moesten de strijd staken. Nico Hulkenberg verging het al niet veel beter. Vanaf achteraf was de jonge Duitser al opgeklommen tot de zestiende plek, maar vervolgens gaf zijn wagen opnieuw de geest.

Franck Mailleux, Yann Clairay en Sam Bird verdelen de laatste punten. Dat is een bittere pil voor Dani Clos. Clos startte als 25e, reed de snelste ronde van de race maar kwam net tekort om het laatste punt te pakken.
