Renger van der Zande wint in Zandvoort

Renger van der Zande heeft vandaag de tweede race in de Formule 3 Euroserie in Zandvoort gewonnen. De Nederlander kreeg de overwinning in de schoot geworpen nadat de complete eerste startrij zich uit de race werpt op de startlijn.

Bij de start is het polesitter Niall Breen die Wickens raakt en in de pitmuur crasht. Later komt Breen in de Tarzanbocht alsnog in aanraking met de vangrails. Beide rijders moeten opgeven. Van der Zande pakt de leiding, voor Yann Clairay, Jules Bianchi en Franck Mailleux. In een ander incident raakt Eduardo Mortara Koudai Tsukakoshi. Tsukakoshi moet opgeven, Mortara finisht na het vervangen van een lekke band als laatste.

Jules Bianchi voert druk op bij Clairay voor de tweede plek, maar onderstuurt op het gras en valt terug tot de negende plek. De enige andere positiewisseling aan de kop van het veld is als Mika Maki Vernay passeert in de laatste bocht voor de vierde plek. De Fin kan er echter niet lang van genieten, want Vernay pakt hem terug in de Tarzanbocht.

Van der Zande wint met 3,7 seconde voorsprong op Clairay, de andere podiumplek is voor Franck Mailleux. Mika Maki is nu tweede in het kampioenschap, negen punten achter Mortara. Van der Zande is nu derde in de stand, voor Hulkenberg.
