Carlo van Dam op weg naar titel in Japan

De titel in het Japans Formule 3-kampioenschap komt steeds dichterbij voor Carlo van Dam. De Nederlander boekte afgelopen weekend op het circuit van Motegi een zege en een tweede plek en verstevigde zodoende zijn eerste positie in de tussenstand. Over de tweede race was de TOMs Toyota-rijder niet heel tevreden.

Van Dam zegt op zijn site:Na vier overwinningen op rij, wil je uiteraard altijd meer! Ik startte net als zaterdag vanaf de tweede startplaats, maar deze keer was mijn teamgenoot Kunimoto gewoon beter weg en daarmee was de race eerlijk gezegd beslist. Inhalen is op Motegi eigenlijk geen optie: iedereen aan kop heeft op het rechte stuk dezelfde topsnelheid en zodra je een paar ronden vlak achter iemand rijdt vreet dat je voorbanden op.

Bovendien reden we kort na de Formule Nippon-race en om één of andere reden klaagt dan iedereen in de Formule 3 altijd over gebrek aan grip. Hoe dan ook, met een overwinning en een tweede plaats heb ik het gat met Iguchi verder vergroot en zijn mijn titelkansen wederom verder gestegen. Ik ga met het oog op die titel echter niet de laatste vier races simpelweg punten sprokkelen, maar wil gewoon weer elke race winnen.
