Hulkenberg op pole in Barcelona

Nico Hulkenberg heeft de snelste tijd gereden tijdens de kwalificatie van de Formule 3 Euroserie in Barcelona. De Duitser vocht de hele sessie met teamgenoot Jules Bianchi, maar deze uiteindelijk ook nog Yann Clairay voor zich dulden. Diens teamgenoot Richard Philippe kende ook een uitstekende middag met de vierde startplaats.

Titelkandidaat Eduardo Mortara wacht morgen uiteindelijk toch weer een moeilijke taak. De VW-coureur eindigt als vijftiende en zal hard zijn best moeten gaan doen om punten te scoren voor het kampioenschap.

Brendon Hartley komt ondertussen in actie voor Carlin Motorsport. Dankzij de switch van Richard Philippe naar SG mag Hartley opnieuw instappen, nadat hij eerder al in actie kwam op de Nurburgring. De kwalificatie gaat echter niet van een leien dakje, want hij wordt vijf plaatsen teruggezet op de startopstelling voor het blokken van een concurrent. De Nieuw-Zeelander mag zodoende als 25e starten. Hartley: "Het is moeilijk om alles uit de banden te halen over een ronde, maar ik denk dat onze snelheid in de race best goed is. Het is frustrerend dat we zes tienden te langzaam zijn, want Carlin is een goed team."

Het is overigens nog niet bekend of Hartley ook in actie komt tijdens de laatste twee weekeinden in Le Mans en Hockenheim.
