Hulkenberg wint eerste race in Barcelona

Nico Hulkenberg heeft vanmiddag zijn voorsprong in het Formule 3 Euroserie-kampioenschap uitgebreid door de eerste race in Barcelona op zijn naam te schrijven. Makkelijk ging het echter niet.

Bij de start is het Richard Philippe die als een kanon van start gaat en in de eerste bocht Jules Bianchi uit de wedstrijd rijdt. Bianchi's teamgenoot Hulkenberg moet uitwijken en laat de leiding aan Yann Clairay. De Fransman rijdt verdedigende lijnen maar lijkt Hulkenberg van zich af te kunnen houden. Het gaat fout als Clairay zich verremt in de eerste bocht en Hulkenberg, Sam Bird en Christian Vietoris voorbij moet laten. Vanaf dat moment rest hem niets anders dan de strijd om de vierde plek.

De beide Nederlanders kennen geen gelukkige race en zowel Renger van der Zande als Henkie Waldschmidt haalt de eindstreep niet. Dankzij de achtste plaats is de pole voor de tweede race voor Kazuya Oshima.
