De Masters of F3 keert terug naar Zandvoort. Dat heeft de directie van het Nederlandse circuit vandaag bekend gemaakt. Het evenement, dat zich jaarlijks in enorme internationale belangstelling mag verheugen, moest twee jaar lang uitwijken naar het Belgische Zolder door geluidsrestricties in de badplaats.

Zandvoorts adjunct-directeur Erik Weijers: "De organisatie van de A1 Grand Prix heeft bekend gemaakt dat de race in Zandvoort pas wordt verreden in de lente van 2010, in plaats van in de herfst. Daardoor hebben we ruimte vrij weten te maken voor de Masters. Door onvoldoende geluidsdagen moesten we uitwijken naar Zolder, wat een goede oplossing bleek. Maar iedereen was er toch van overtuigd dat de Masters op Zandvoort hoort. We hebben er hard aan gewerkt om dit voor elkaar te krijgen."

Dit jaar zal het evenement verreden worden op 13 en 14 juni. Onder de voormalig winnaars behoren gevierde (ex-) Formule 1-coureurs als David Coulthard, Takuma Sato en Lewis Hamilton. Ook werd de Masters twee keer gewonnen door een Nederlander: in 1993 door Jos Verstappen en in 1997 door Tom Coronel.
