Renger van der Zande schrijft debuutrace op zijn naam

Renger van der Zande debuteerde afgelopen weekend op het circuit van Silverstone in het Britse Formule 3-kampioenschap en deed dat met verve. De Nederlander startte de eerste race als tweede, ging bij de start de polesitter voorbij en won zowaar zijn debuutrace in dit kampioenschap. Race 2 verliep door een onwillige auto minder.

Van der Zande blikt terug: Starting with a bang, heet dat. Dit is natuurlijk geweldig. Ik had een superstart, alsof je wegrijdt bij het boodschappen doen, en kon de race daarna controleren. De keiharde wind was soms wel erg tricky, ik vloog een keer vol naast de baan, dus vanaf toen heb ik gewoon geconsolideerd. Ik heb gezorgd dat Max Chilton niet te dichtbij kwam en had gewoon nog snelheid over, een fantastisch gevoel.

In race 2 lag ik op de derde plaats toen de versnellingsbak het begaf. Dat is natuurlijk jammer, maar goed... Het team is heel erg blij met me, ik heb veel feedback kunnen geven over de auto, waardoor hij gedurende het weekend steeds sneller werd en dat is natuurlijk waar je het voor doet. Voorlopig is deze race een one-off. We zien wel wat de rest van het seizoen brengt. Ik heb in ieder geval een goede bijdrage kunnen leveren aan het team en mezelf weer lekker op de kaart gezet.
